The Roman shield was made from goat or calf skin stretched over pieces of wood. It was 4 feet long and 3 feet wide with iron rims fitted along the top and bottom edges. An iron circle was attached to the center of the shield.

Before a battle, the soldiers soaked their shields with water so that when the fiery enemy darts struck, the flames were extinguished.

The shield of faith is our protection against temptation. All the “flaming arrows of the evil one” can be stopped. When faced with faith in God, the powers of darkness are overcome.

As for God, his way is perfect. He is a shield for all who take refuge in Him. 2 Sam 22:31
